Week 2

Week Two:

Monday: September 14,2015

-- First day volunteering in the classroom, Chelsea and I just observed and watch how the children interact with the teacher. We get up at 6;45 to get ready and then head to the Green Lion office so we can get picked up to go to the school. It take us about 30 minutes by taxi to get to the school "Catur Paramita". Once we got to the school we enter into the classroom and all the children said good morning. Then we introduce are names to the class. Chelsea went first and they said her name very fast, when it was my turn they all had blank looks on there faces. As the class was going on we found out that it is going to be a very hard time teaching the children because all they know is Bahasa. We have 27 children in the classroom, and they are all very cute. The class starts at 8;30 and gets done around 10. The lesson we teach will only be about an hour long.

--Took a day trip to Pura Ulun Danu Bratan:

Even those the volunteering time is only about 2 hour long I made a trip out to a temple with Alexis. All, I can say is WOW how amazing the temple was. The temple is located on a edge of lake. The lake is called"Lake Bratan, around the area of Bedugul, Bali". Pura in Bali means temple, the Ulun Danu Bratan is one of the most famous Balinese Hindu temple. This temple is some time called the "Temple of the water", because when the tide comes up, the temple looks like it is floating on water."

--Lesson planning with Chelsea.

After the first day of volunteering with the program

Chelsea and I sat down and started to work on a lesson plan. We cut square out and wrote color on the square and the name,so the children could say the color. We also cut out the numbers one to four because number four is what the class was going to be working on Tuesday. We came up with the idea that the children would also draw a house. This was just a simple lesson plan, so we could get the feel for teaching the children.

Tuesday: September 15,2015

-- Second day volunteering in the classroom:

The theme for this week is "Home"

We had a lesson planed but the Art Teacher was in the classroom and he had the children already drawing a house. The class got to the sing the song "If Your Happy & You Know It". We had the idea to make the children count 1-4 but they can count 1-20. We also went over colors today like Red, Blue, Yellow, Orange, Green, and Purple. We also made the children draw a house.Chelsea and I are still new to teaching children, so today after class we came back to the Kopi Desa " A coffee shop close to the Volunteer House" and we started to make some lesson plans up for the week.

We came up with some worksheet that the children will be able to count and color.

Wednesday: September 16, 2015

--Third day teaching in the classroom, I am so proud of myself I taught all by myself, because Chelsea was not feeling good today. I went back over the colors and counting to twenty with kids. Chelsea and I made worksheet for the kids to work on, they had a hard writing the number in the right order, we came up with tracing the numbers and writing the number with out tracing it. We made another worksheet that had a house on it, and the kids had to match each of the image to the part of the house. Then the kids have a snack and then we have ten minutes before they leave. When they leave they take your hand and they put it toward there forehead or check, it is sign of respect.

Thursday: September 17, 2015

--Fourth day teaching, the worksheets that we made on Tuesday have lasted about two day and the children are learning to count and write the number in English, and put the number in the right order. We also went back over the colors again. Today we also made some flash card so the children could learn some objects in a house.

For Examples:

Cup - Cangkir

Phone - Telepon

Clock - Jam

Lamp - Lampu

Chair - Kursi

Desk -  Meja Tulis

Bathtub - Bak Mandi

Bed - Tempat Tidur

These are just some of the flash card we have made! We are planing to make more for tomorrows lesson. We have a game where each table is going to get a few flash cards and they have to post them on the white board with the right scene.

After teaching the children the lesson we got back to the volunteer house around 11:00 am and as we were eating lunch we came up with an idea of visiting another temple. Some of the volunteers where still hungry so we came to Kopi Desa for some more food. Finally everyone was done eating we started to look for a taxi, some of the taxi drivers where asking for way to much. We got one of the driver to bring down the price and then started for the two hour drive to the temple. Once we got to the temple, we paid the entrance fee, as we walk up to the gate we all stood with faces of WOW. We started to walk around all the plants and flower had bright colors, making the temple look amazing. Even those it not a temple you can describe so "I posted a photo over on the right hand-side " This temple even had two swimming are for you to swim in we all had brought swimsuits but all we did was put are feet into the pool. Here are some of the locals swimming in the pool.

Friday: September 18, 2015

--Fifth day teaching, each day is getting easier to teach the lesson that Chelsea and I have came up with. Today we had the children looking at the flash cards and put each item in the right square. In the first box we had a house, second we had the sky, third the ocean, and last box we had a landscape with a tree. Each of the children in the class got to bring a flash card up and match it to the right scene. After that we had the kid color the maze to get to the house. As a child, it hard to sit for a very long time so we went and played on play ground, we played duck, duck, goose. Then we went back into the classroom the kids took a five min break ate and then the teacher got back up and they started a drum class, because on Friday they stay for and extra thirty minutes doing a music lesson or dance lesson.

--Sanur

After everyone was done with teaching for the day around 5:00 we ate dinner and was off to Sanur. The taxi down to Sanur was only about 45 minutes away from Ubud. We got to the hotel "Astana Pengembak" and everyone was amazed how pretty the hotel is. We have a balcony to sit on, it has a small kitchen to cook in, also it has a rain Forrest shower head. After checking in we went chilled for a little and went for swim  After the swim some of us got hungry so we went out to this bar/grill called Casablanca and had a few drinks. After that I called it a night.

Saturday & Sunday: September 19-20, 2015

--Sanur you have been relaxing. After the night of drinking Friday I was not feeling so good and some us where going to go Scuba Diving. I said because I was not feeling good I would not do it today. As we got into the shuttle down to the beach, we started asking the driver about places for Scuba Diving. The shuttle was about a ten minutes away from the hotel, as we started to walk of the "Driver said keep your bag in front of you so they could not take stuff from your bag." As we started walking to down the beach we found it to be really peaceful and not a lot of kids. As we walk down the beach we found the perfect spot to lay it was near some tree so we would not be out in the sun all day. When getting the towels all set up, a person that worked at the hotel came up and said this is a private beach area for our guest, and we had to move. So in the end we went and got chairs that we where all up and down the beach. It was nice because we had chairs and a umbrella to sit under all day. This beach was very nice, the last beach we went to had reefs all down the beach and it was hard to swim or do anything. We had a nice day just relaxing in the sun. We all got tired and went back to the hotel, as we had to walk back because the taxi where asking for way to much. We reach the hotel and we went swimming in the pool. Then we started to get hungry again so we went out for dinner. We went to this place called "Casa Luna" but after looking at the menu, nobody really looked happy  We started to walk down the street and looking at prices everything seem to be really expanse. Finally we found this place called "Downtown" it was very interesting it had people signatures all over the walls and ceilings  Everyone had a very good meal ( I got chicken cordon blue, it was so yummy). When done eating we all got to sign some where on the ceiling and then we called it a night by going home and playing card.

So after getting enough sleep because we where all tired from the night before, we got up and ate breakfast and headed to the dive site in Nusa Dua. From Sanur to Nusa Dua was about a ten to twenty minute taxi ride. Once we got to the dive site I was getting nervous and scared. The instructor got all of us set up so we could head to the boat. We got in the boat from the shore line and it took about 5 minutes to reach the dive site. The instructor where telling us underwater hand sign, which was not to hard to understand. Then they started about the equipment we will be using, I was getting a little confused but once in the water it made it easier to understand. So we got to jump of the boat with weight around us so when we you go down it is easier to stink down to the bottom. As I was making my way down to the part where it had a railing to hold on to, it was a big help. I was getting a little nervous because the guides where helping the other come down and one was taking picture for us. It was so nice the they took the picture for us. All the photo they took came out so nice and we all were very happy. I was so happy after diving, because I have never dived before. It was an amazing opportunity for me to try it out here in Bali. When done with diving we got back into the taxi and went back to the hotel and got lunch, as we waited for the two other girls to come back so we could head back into Ubud. We reached Ubud around 4 pm, and we decided to chill before we went out for dinner. As getting ready to go for dinner we meet some of the new volunteers that had just got into Ubud. So we talked to them for a little while and some of us need to go to the ATM to get money out. We went as a big group got money out of the ATM and went to dinner at Lala Lili. Lala Lili was this nice little restaurant that had table where you can sit at or table where you can sit on pillow on the floor. We sat down on the floor it was nice until we had a snake started to crawl under the table. All of that said it was a nice place for dinner. We all got done and walked about the house and called it a night.

Heading into week 3, Let see what this week brings.
